Edition vc.ru talked to the Izhevsk businessman Artem Subbotin, who developed “Simkomat” device for the sale of tariff plans of mobile operators, which allows to verify the identity of the caller. Subbotin told about why a product is not in demand on the Russian market, and also about how the technology to assess the authenticity of documents on the basis of neural networks has turned to SaaS to enterprise customers. In 2002 Artem Subbotin worked as a consultant in a phone shop. Besides mobile phones, there were sold and SIM-cards. Some tariff plans offer lower prices for calls within the region, others for long distance calls.
“People were out buying two or three SIM cards, but the phones supported only one. Therefore, there is a demand for a technology “multisim” when Ki and IMSI keys of the standard “in love” was recorded on blank card-blank”, — says Subbotin. In one multisecure could be recorded up to 12 profiles. The process of reading and writing those keys took up to four hours. The cost of the blanks does not exceed 500 roubles, as much again the specialist took over the work.
The entrepreneur saw a need and decided to open his own company. Together with a partner they found in Moscow vendor who will send them a small batch of copies, however when they issued the larger the order, the supplier took the money and disappeared. Subbotin thought that if there were a technique for remote verification of the identity of the people, it would help to reduce the number of scammers and unscrupulous partners. In 2002, however, he did not have the resources to develop such technology, and the idea hung in the air.
Instead, the entrepreneur focused on business development in the field of mobile communication. By 2009, in Udmurtia, he owned about 28 galleries under the “Beeline” brand, and around 100 stands selling simcard. All in all, his company employed more than 200 people.
“I had a vague understanding of how this chaotic state of work, mostly because it was one of the students. They were sick, quit, something always happened. I have a need to automate the process, eliminating the human factor”, — says Subbotin.
The world trend is automation. If a person needs a spare key, he will trust the case to a special machine and will not go into the booth, where cut keys. Accordingly, the mobile operators are also catching up to this. According to Subbotina, mobile operators unprofitable shops for sale simkart, as sales of mobile phones and tablets mostly happen on the Internet. So he decided to develop a device for the automatic sale simkart — “Simkomat”.
By 2013 was ready the prototype on the basis of the payment terminal, which was built in camera to take a picture of the behalf of the client, and a scanner passports — two cameras inside a glass cube, which recorded the upper and lower part of spreadsheet. “The man walked up, pressed the button “I want to buy a SIM card”, inserted the banknote, and then the system asked me to insert the passport. After that, the machine was photographing the users face, and he got the SIM card. Worked all pretty simple,” says the entrepreneur. However, when he presented the device to the representatives of the operators, they found defects.
“They noticed that we are not able to enter into a contract with the subscriber, and to obtain his signature. All this is not allowed to run the technology on the market”, — says Subbotin. The owner modified the machine by installing the printer for the printing of contracts and scanner that checks the signatures and the correctness of the document. “If all goes well, the machine takes a contract for storage. If the contract is not filled out correctly, the machine returns it to the man.
The rest of the process of purchase of the SIM card remained unchanged. Machine the buyer goes through the same procedure as in the salon, only without the participation of a consultant,” explains the entrepreneur. In addition, by 2014, Subbotin managed to develop technology to verify the identity of customers, to prevent the acquisition simcard on a foreign passport. “”Simkomat” compares the passport photo and the real photo of the subscriber which has been made in the purchase process.
The process of identifying the similarities of individuals is on average almost four minutes,” he explains. Developing and improving the software product employs a team of four people, and about thirty involved in the process of production and Assembly. “We cooperate with one factory where deployed full production. Communicate closely with the engineers sent by technical challenges and changes, which are then entered to the new version of “Simkomat””. The last five years, we are constantly engaged in refining the devices.
Usually after we have sent the terminal client, have any questions. The client wants to improve something, we do see the flaws. Therefore, the next version of the machine exhibited checklist of enhancements — a list of 20-30 items that we are finalizing to the next version. You cant just make a perfect product. According to the businessman, despite the fact that “Simkomat” going to Russia, most of the components made overseas.
“Not yet suitable components that we can take from Russian suppliers. Roughly speaking, besides the body, the inner mounts and chassis, and electronics bought in China, Korea, Canada and the United States,” he notes. Since the beginning of work on “Simkomat”, device interested 600 Russian and foreign companies, however, due to the appreciation of the exchange rate of the Russian mobile operators have refused to buy terminals. For five years, the Subbotin has sold about 50 “Simantov” in Turkey, Czech Republic, Belarus, Transnistria and Cameroon. “Since we have all the components are purchased in dollars, then the unit for the Russian market was worth 2.5 times more expensive.
All cases for local operators, which were calculated in rubles, and began to disperse, and it so happened that they were unable to purchase the product. Accordingly, our customers were generally foreign operators”, — says Subbotin. According to the businessman, the first purchase of the customer — from 2 to 10 units, and low conversion request in the order is connected with the fact that his company has strict requirements to the customers. “We do not offer free pilot samples for testing, do not allow kiosks in installments, do not give ready for the “Simantov”, it must always customize for a specific service provider, are only an advance of 70-80%,” — says Subbotin. Self-service kiosks is the companys flagship product Simkomat.
In the future Subbotin plans to build machines for other areas where signing a deal with a client requires a contract or verification of the individual. “We have no matter what to give people. For example, we can sell people passes to the fitness room. There man is also required to sign a contract for a month or a year. So let the gym catches him not at home, and, for example, in the Mall,” he says.
In addition, the company develops products for automated verification of identity of persons. “I dont understand why at the entrance to government buildings sits the guard checks the passport of visitors. A person can not cope with the recognition, but we can automate its work”, — says Subbotin. For this, he in 2015, has created a service CheckU, which by means of a neural network maps a photo of the person and his passport photograph and the passport data recognizes. “He compares the anthropometric points of the face — the ratio of the distance between the pupils, mouth corners and so on, the photograph in the passport and the person presenting it.
The result of the comparison is the similarity,” says the entrepreneur. The product was tested using Association of about six thousand photos, and critical errors were recorded. There are more cool and extravagant projects. For example, the Chinese are now doing a project that on the face of the person determines it to be a criminal or not. To do this, they trained a neural network on the basis of several tens of thousands of photos.
It is clear that it is not ethical, but the Chinese anyway, they always stick to their line. Currently in development is another product — CheckU ID, which will allow you to calculate a fake passport. For this purpose, the neural network evaluates the document for 62 criteria, considering, in particular, did not change whether the passport number in the photo editor. “We analyze a scan or photo of your passport.
Defined, not whether it is retouching, analyzed the EXIF data, compression, compression, looking for complete field level ELA determined in compliance with GOST and ISO. Also analyzed the data in the passport, conducting the cross-check analysis of the document”, — says Subbotin. According to Subbotina, the idea for the product arose after requests from Western clients, who feared becoming a victim of fraud. “In Russia highly developed fraud, where the attacker meets a foreigner under the form of a girl and offers to meet. That the meeting took place, the victim must pay for the plane ticket.
To confirm the veracity of its history, the attacker sends the victim a scan of the passport, which contains real information of the person receiving payments, with the edited picture.”. First, the team was the analysis of free — received photos in the mail, checked them out and gave customers the answer. Now Subbotin plans to create a product based on this technology, as well as another service for remote verification of a person — Check Up. “For the price of a product is difficult to say something. But I think that it will be affordable prices — in the region of 300-500 rubles for verification.
In addition, we want to start a section for corporate clients,” he concludes.
