The luxurious life of Mark Andreessen, one of the most successful investors in Silicon valley

Marc Andreessen is known for the creation of the Netscape browser and the launch of Andreessen Horowitz, one of the most famous Silicon valley venture funds, managing $4.2 billion. The firm acted as an early investor in companies such as Facebook, Twitter, and Airbnb. State of Andriessen in 2012 was estimated at $600 million, and since then had only increased. Investor grew up in a provincial town of new Lisbon in Wisconsin.

His father worked for the grain company, and his mother worked in the customer service Department of one of large shops. Andreessen doesnt like to talk about his family. One investor told reporters that Andreessen never discussed his parents and brother, mentioning only that they didnt like each other.

In nine years, Andriessen began to study the programming language BASIC for library book. By high school he had already fully mastered a personal computer TRS-80. Andreessen Illinojsky enrolled in the University at Urbana-Champaign where he studied computer science — in those moments when I was awake at the lectures and didnt skip class.

In College, Andreessen spent two months working 80 hours a week in computer class to create a browser called Mosaic. He and his team gave the Mosaic free of charge two million users. This attracted the attention of James Clark, founder of Silicon Graphics. Together with Andriessen they in 1994 he founded the company Netscape.

In August 1995 Netscape went on the exchange, and at 24 Andreessen received a fortune of $56 million. Four years later the company was acquired by the holding company of AOL — for a while Andreessen worked there in the position of technical Director, moved into the house in the Washington area of 650 square meters. After leaving AOL Andreessen founded a web hosting service called Loudcloud, together with Ben Horowitz.

Later, the company changed its name to Opsware and was sold to HP in 2007 for $1.6 billion. Andreessen and Horowitz have created a VC Fund Andreessen Horowitz in 2009. The initial volume of the Fund amounted to $300 million, in three years it grew to $2.7 billion. The firm has been recoup investment — Facebook, Airbnb, Github, Twitter.

In 2006, Andreessen married Laura Arrillaga, daughter of John Arrillaga, one of the largest property owners in Silicon valley. The couple lives in a house of 800 square meters in the city of Atherton, in five minutes from the office Andreessen Horowitz.

Andreessen has been repeatedly noted by the worlds media — he was in Vanity Fairs 2011 New Establishment List, the list of the largest investor from Forbes (Midas List) and a list of Time 100. In 2012, the co-founder of Andreessen Horowitz, including the Andreessen, have pledged to give to charity half of their income for life. Today, under the management of Andreessen Horowitz are $4.2 billion.

The company invests in startups such as Slack, Lyft, Airbnb, and Pinterest.
